On behalf of the Signal Processing Society's Technical Committee on Signal Processing for Wireless Communications and Networking, and the SPAWC 2014 Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 15th IEEE International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications. Our venue, Hart House, which is on the campus of the University of Toronto, will provide an elegant backdrop for this engaging forum for exchanging ideas on the development of wireless communication systems. Our exchanges will be energized by keynote and plenary speakers, a panel discussion with leaders of industrial research and development, and invited and contributed poster sessions, all of which will be augmented by social events that will provide opportunities to exchange ideas and create networks in a less formal setting.
The continuing success of SPAWC is due, in large part, to the enthusiasm of authors and attendees for the SPAWC format, and for the quality of the interactions that that format encourages. We would like to thank all of the authors for enriching the workshop with their technical contributions. We would like to offer special thanks to our keynote and plenary speakers, and the members of our industrial panel, and we look forward to the discussions that their talks will stimulate. The development of the technical program has been led by Technical Program Co-Chairs, Eduard Jorswieck and Akbar Sayeed, and we all owe them a debt of gratitude for their astute leadership of the conversion of our authors' enthusiasm into an excellent technical program.
On your behalf, we would like to express our appreciation for the generous support that SPAWC 2014 has received from Huawei Technologies and TELUS Corporation. Our workshop will be a more engaging experience as a result of their support. We would also like to thank Min Dong, our Finance Chair, for coordinating all the financial aspects of the workshop, Ramy Gohary for making the local arrangements, and Gesualdo Scutari for coordinating the publication of the proceedings.
As we welcome you all to SPAWC 2014, we reflect on the words of Vincent Massey, whose family provided funding for the construction of Hart House in 1911. "The bricks and mortar are but the bones, the community must provide the spirit." Our community is full of spirit, and we look forward to joining with you to engage in a lively and enlivening workshop.
